The important date is the ex-date - On or after this date the security trades without its dividend. If you buy before the exdate you will get the dividend. Entitlement date is also called the 'Date of Record' in which the company looks at who are the shareholders of the company...

Thanks alot for the explanation Tescoy88!!!

From what I've been reading here, ex date basically means you're entitled to dividends if you purchase the stock before that date. But I'll let the more experienced sifus here explain better

The important date is the ex-date - On or after this date the security trades without its dividend. If you buy before the exdate you will get the dividend. Entitlement date is also called the 'Date of Record' in which the company looks at who are the shareholders of the company entitled to the dividend. In today's market, settlement is T+3 which means that if you buy a stock it takes 3 days for the transaction to be entered into the company's record books. Hence, in AEONCR case, ex date is 28/06/13 and entitlement data is 02/07/13 ; including the exdate 28th ( excluding holidays ) plus another 2 trading days equal to July 2.

Trust this clears your confusion between exdate and entitlement date. Cheers.

ACS has just announced its 1Q result: 28.71 sen per share, growth of 47% over that of last year. First quarter from Feb to May is usually the weakest period because it does not coincide with any festive season. The next quarter will see even stronger set of financial data due to Hari Raya season.

The only word to describe ACS performance is "phenomenal". Share price shot up to as high as RM17.88 compared with yesterday's closing of RM16.60 per share.

There is still plenty of steam in ACS. The benefits of enlarged business base through incorporation of 28 Aeon Big outlets is yet to be felt.

It is quiet a big surprise that ACS zoomed past the mark of RM16. One of the main reasons of this strong showing is the persistent buying of ACS shares by Aberdeen Fund. They seem to have so much confidence in the company. At this juncture, I don't dare to predict any price for ACS. The only way to assess the company now is to monitor the quarterly results and announcements for any current or future business plans.

Aeon Credit 4Q profit soars 41%, revenue jumps 40%

Aeon Credit 4Q profit soars 41%, revenue jumps 40%

KUALA LUMPUR (April 18): AEON CREDIT SERVICE (M) BHD [] posted a net profit of RM39 million for its fourth financial quarter ended Feb 20, 2013, up 40.7% from RM27.7 million in previous corresponding quarter.

Its revenue for the quarter stood at RM131.7 million, up 39.7% from RM94.3 million.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, the company said: “The results achieved were due to continued growth in business, coupled with improved cost efficiency from sharp growth in receivables in the year and lower ratio of net impairment loss charge for the financial year.”

Higher growth was recorded for the vehicle financing and personal financing operations.

On the back of this strong set of results, the company announced a final single tier dividend of 19.50 sen per share (previous corresponding period – 16.80 sen), to be paid on July 16, 2013.

For the 12 months to Feb 2013, the company’s revenue rose 35.7% growth to RM467.1 million while its net profit soared 40% to RM134.1 million from RM95.6 million.

On prospects, the company expects “to be able to maintain its good performance in the current financial year based on current strong demand and positive market trend”.

Aeon Credit moved up significantly today, up 34 sen up to close at RM14.50 per share. Apart from the impending good results, the other factor that causes current price appreciation of Aeon Credit is that Aberdeen has been buying. This is the fund that sold Aeon Credit down to RM10.30 some two months ago! At present, Aberdeen holds more than 9 million Aeon Credit shares, about 6.38%. Share price has moved some 40% within last one month plus alone; I think its time for the counter to consolidate for a while. Too much good thing in too short a time may not be that healthy.

Aeon Credit has breached the RM14 mark today, closing at RM14.16 per share. This is quite unexpected, moving very much faster than I thought of. Anyway, the market is still waiting for the announcement of 4Q financial result. Judging from the price movement, the company should be releasing a set of sterling results coupled with decent dividend, latest by April 20.

It is pretty hard now to predict share price of Aeon Credit because a few sectors of the company are growing simultaneously, namely credit card, SME financing, used car financing and expansion of easy payment through Aeon Big. May be, RM16 would be within striking range for the next 2 years.

Hi Petracot, loved your infos on ACS and thank you for the updates... What do you think is the fair value for this co. and would you recommend to keep buying at this price? Thanks

My estimate is RM14 for the medium term of 1 to 2 years. hkwlau's RM16 may be right too but probably in a longer term. We all are making intelligent guesses; one thing is sure, Aeon Credit is a growing stock and the price will keep appreciating. It is a question of how much.

Based on last year record, Aeon Credit is expected to make announcement on 20th April 2013 as this is Q4 result which requires auditing. I expect the EPS to be about $1.00.
What is more interesting to me is the coming quarters results which to my guess would be surprises, particularly with the new income flow from AEON Big.
At $13.00, it is fair price for the moment. As for the rest of the year, it may justify for much higher price, probably $16 by year end, pending the unfolding of coming quarters exciting results!

Company like Aeon Credit is an investment-grade stock; the share price does not depend so much on market trend but on financial performance. It has been one month since the closing of financial quarter on 20th February; the market is expecting the result announcement any time from today.

Just a bit of update. I shared some weeks back that Aberdeen sold Aeon Credits shares aggressively and share price plummeted to RM10.30 per share. Surprisingly, latest announcement showed that Aberdeen bought 500,000 shares on March 7 at an average of RM12.50 per share. Well, some good things must be in store, watch out for the 4Q results this month.

Aeon Credit, Aeon and Aeon Big (carefour) are sister companies with common parent company- Aeon Japan. They are all independent companies though they cooperate with one another.

Aeon Japan is the mother, Aeon Co is the elder sister, Aeon Cr is the younger sister, Aeon Big (Carrefour) is the foster sister (anak angkat)

Aeon Credit has recovered from the low of RM10.30 to RM11.00 per share. This is a classical example of not simply follow the trend but to invest based on facts. It is also an example of not simply follow the big boys, they may not always be right.

Aberdeen was selling the share like crazy causing share price to plunge from RM13.70 to RM10.30 per share. But they have their own reasons to sell, not necessary related to fundamentals. Aberdeen is a fund manager, they might have to sell shares to meet redemption from unit holders.

In a similar note, Arm Forces Cooperative owned 12 million Aeon Credit shares 3+ years ago; for some unknown reasons, they sold about 5 million shares in the open market at about RM2.80 per share. Since then Aeon Credit has appreciated to more than RM10 despite bonus issue dilution.

I have confidence that Aeon Credit will hit RM14 within 2 years. Watch out for next month's result announcement.

Q4 Financial result - 20th Feb 2013.
Q4 and total year Revenua and profit should be very good compare to previous year.
Dividend expected to be better than last year.
Expect AEONCR share price going up after announcement.

I also agree that at today's price, AeonCr is a steal. Still wonder why Aberdeen keeps selling? I noticed it has pared down its stake from 11,100 lots to the current 8,600 lots, average selling about 500 lots every month since Sept 2012. Just wonder when it is going to stop selling?

At RM10.82, Aeon Credit is a steal. The financial year closes on 20th Feb 2013. Most people expect the whole year net earning to be around RM1 per share. Applying a conservative PER of 12 or 13, that would yield capital value of RM12 to RM13 per share. On top of the interim dividend of 16 sen, another final dividend of 20 sen single tier is likely. One of the investment principles used by successful fund managers is "contrarian theory". It simply means when the masses are fearful, be brave in investing and vice versa.

To update the readers, below are some latest reported figures:

Aeon's latest 3Q result ended 30/9/2012: Cumulative Earning Per share- 36.25 sen, no interim dividend paid thus far;

Aeon Credit's 3Q result ended 20/11/2012: Cumulative Earning Per share- 75.57 sen, interim dividend paid - 16 sen single tier.

It is noted that earning of Aeon Credit is more than double that of Aeon. It is expected that total annual dividend of Aeon Credit will also be more than double that of Aeon. Big timers are not always right. Judge for yourself and make your own decision.

Aberdeen is selling Aeon Credit and switch over to Aeon. They probably think Aeon is more defensive and more stable. But I think Aeon Credit can make more money and in faster way, being a finance company, but of course the downside is higher risk. The earning and dividend of Aeon Credit are much higher than Aeon.

This is bad news for Aeon Malaysia because Aeon Big will to some extent cannibalize Aeon Malaysia. That is why price of Aeon Malaysia continues to fall.

However, the news of separate operator for the new chain remain good news for Aeon Credit.Regardless of who operates the new chain, Aeon Big is a sister company of Aeon Credit and there will vast opportunity for expansion in consumer financing. That is why price of Aeon Credit keeps rising, up by 56 sen to hit RM12.90 today.

It is confirmed that Aeon Japan is buying 26 hypermarkets of Carrefour Malaysia for 250 million Euro (about RM1 billion). When the news was published today, share price of Aeon came down 20 sen to RM12.28 but Aeon Credit moved up 38 sen to RM12.34 at closing.

The reason is very simple: in the short to medium term, Aeon Credit will benefit more than Aeon. Below is the explanation:

a) Carrefour Malaysia is a losing money concern. It would take Aeon probably a few years to turn it around. At the same time, Aeon might have to borrow money to fund the purchase. Interest incurred would eat into the current profit of Aeon.

b) Aeon Credit can move in and capitalised on the consumer financing of Carrefour customers. Aeon Credit will also benefit by managing loyalty cards of Carrefour members. The beauty of the situation is that Aeon Credit can make profits without having to spend much additional cost.

It has been reported that Aeon of Japan will buy over the 23 stores of Carrefour Hyper Market of Malaysia at USD250 million. The deal may be completed as soon as next week as reported by Star today.

While Aeon and Aeon Credit are not directly related, they are nevertheless sister companies with a common parent company Japan Aeon. Acquisition of Carrefour chain will open up more consumer financing business for Aeon Credit. In addition, Aeon Credit will benefit from the management of loyalty cards for members of newly acquired outlets.

This new acquisition of the Carrefour chain may be the single most important catalyst that will push share price of Aeon Credit beyond the RM12 mark in the near future.

It was a fantastic week for Aeon Credit. The share price shot up from RM10+ to smashed through the RM11 barrier, closing the week at RM11.40 per share. Some light selling by Aberdeen, a substantial institutional shareholder was noted. All the shares available were mopped up by a stream retail buyers.

Selling by Aberdeen does not mean Aeon Credit is over-priced. They have their own reasons: may be they are switching counters or may be they need to raise cash to meet redemption by their unit holders. As it is, Aeon Credit still has a lot of steam.

Recent article in BT reported that Aeon Credit Service is seeking acquisitions in the financial services industry to diversify its business.

"The company wants to further expand beyond consumer finance to tap rising demand from smaller companies and for used-car loans," Managing Director Yasuhiro Kasai said in an interview in Kuala Lumpur on 6/10/2012.

Aeon Credit Malaysia will make purchases that “help us grow faster,” Kasai said. “We go for the middle-sized or bigger companies because they have more talented people and much bigger customer base.”

Writer's comment: Reputable company like Aeon Credit does not simply make press statements. When they do, they mean it and they will do it. New acquisitions will complement the existing organic growth and accelerate the earning growth.

Consumer sector will benefit from the recent budget. Firstly, there is an 1 1/2 month bonus for all civil servant. Secondly, there will be much tax savings for the middle income group which may range from RM400 to RM1,000 due to reduction in tax rates. All this excess money will find its way into consumer market.

Aeon Credit, being the largest consumer-good financier will definitely benefit from the excess money sloshing around in the consumer market.

There were waves of selling beginning from from Sept 11 - the ex-BI date. Many of those who received bonus issues shares cashed out in the last three weeks. It is of course understandable as the market was soft during that period of time - a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. The share price was pushed down close to RM10 at the lowest ebb.

I think the selling has dried up and the share price rebounded strongly recording a close of RM10.52 last Friday. Most likely, Aeon Credit is on the path to the north again with RM11 within its striking range. The 16 sen single tier dividend will go ex on 2 OCT.

Aeon Credit has just declared the 2Q results: 50.15 sen per share which is an increase of 41% over last year's earning. At the same time, the company has also declared an interim dividend of 16 sen single tier for the enlarged capital base after BI. No wonder the Chairman bought shares from the open market on 13 Sept 2012.

The chairman of Aeon Credit bought a total of 62,180 shares on 13 Sept, 2 days after ex-BI. When an insider buys shares, it is a good sign because he has privileged information of good things happening. Of course, he has to declare his dealings and that is how we can interpret the future movement of share price.

A substantial shareholder, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. ("MUFG") has just bought 1,851,600 Aeon Credit shares on 11/09/2012. MUFG now owns a total of 11,109,600 or 9.258%. They have been buying Aeon Credit for the last few years when the price was as low as below RM3 and the current purchase was struck at a price above RM10 per share. It is worth noting the confidence of MUFG shown in Aeon Credit.

Aeon Credit dropped 20 sen to closed at RM10.72 per share. This could be due to the scheduled listing of 24 million new shares resulting from the recent BI tomorrow. Although Aeon Credit is a blue chip now with good prospect of long term growth, some shareholders may decide to take profit, which is very normal. Any dip in the share price of this counter is an opportunity to buy. Watch out for the soon-to-be-released 2Q results and dividend payment!

Aeon Credit closed at RM10.90 today, up 26 sen from the ex-BI price of RM10.64 per share. Not spectacular but substantial gain, considering the fact that the market is in a deep correction mode for the last few days, and that most stocks are swimming in the sea of red ink. The next advance would probably come in the next few weeks when the 2Q result is released together with announcement of a dividend. By then, we should see the share price cruising past RM11 mark effortlessly.

Aeon Credit closed today at 12.78 and tomorrow the counter goes ex-BI. Based on this price, the theoretical ex-BI is RM10.65 per share. The price may fluctuate between RM10 to RM11 tomorrow onward. However, with the strong earning growth of the company, it is probable that the share price would hit RM12 again before the end of 2013.

Aeon Credit was sold down to as low as RM11.72 but closed at RM12.10 by noon. This is perhaps an opportune time for those who missed the boat to nibble into the counter. The ex-Bonus date is 11 Sept, which means there is still 3 days left for bargain hunting.

The company has announced the ex-bonus issue date: 11/09/2012. No wonder the second leg of rally took off this morning! The share price touched as high as RM13.62 but closed off at RM13.30 for the morning session, up by 42 sen. Most probably, the expected good 2Q result will be announced after the entitlement date of BI. The stock will very likely be actively traded right up to the ex-bonus issue date. There is very high probability that the share price would hit RM14 mark.

The BI has been duly approved yesterday. The excitement of chasing the stock up to EGM date is over and the share price corrected itself significantly. The next run up will probably take place when the BI entitlement date is announced, which should be forth coming in September.

The Chairman commented at this morning's EGM that although the Bonus Issue (1:5) is small, he hopes to see this meeting as a recurrent event. I presume what he meant was that another bonus of a similar quantum could be in the offing in future.

The bonus issue is expected to be completed in the middle of next month. The 2H result is expected to be announced thereafter. If the performance turns out to be impressive, we cannot discount the possibility that the market could bring its share price back to its pre-bonus level in view of the small (1:5) bonus issue.

The above statement is merely my personal opinion, upon which kindly exercise your own judgment.

Another day of big price push for Aeon Credit, hitting intra-day high of RM13.58 and closed at RM13.30, an increase of 52 sen. Tomorrow is the D-day for BI approval. Actually, there is nothing to speculate on about this event. It is public knowledge that this BI approval is a foregone conclusion. Nevertheless, it is interesting to watch how the stock will behave tomorrow.

Another spectacular day for Aeon Credit, closing at RM12.78 with a hefty increase of 72 sen. Intra-day high touched RM12.90 in the afternoon. It's quite puzzling why the price keep moving north. At this juncture, there are only 3 things unknown about the company. First, Aeon Credit Malaysia has a 20% stake in Aeon Credit India. Although this is a potential earning contributor, the operation has not really taken off yet. Secondly, the circulation of Aeon VISA Credit Card is growing; this could be a potential big earning contributor. Thirdly, 2Q dividend and earning is forth coming. This is quite predictable: dividend probably within the range of 13 to 15 sen while 2Q earning in the range of 20-25 sen per share. None of these factor justify the big push for the last few days. Most likely, it is the frenzy buying of shares ahead of the BI approval on 28 Aug.

As a rule of thumb, take the latest earning, annualized it and multiply it by PER of 15 and that will give a rough estimate of fair price.

Aeon Credit is moving again, hitting intra-day high of RM11.88 on last Friday but closed off peak at RM11.52 before the long Hari Raya week end. Reason? Very simple. August 28 is drawing nearer, the date to approve the Bonus Issues of 1:5 in EGM. Secondly, the 2Q accounting period closed on August 20 which means the financial result of 2Q will be known very soon. As 2Q covered the Hari Raya shopping period, the earning is expected to see significant improvement. At the same time, an interim dividend of around 13.5 sen single tier will be announced before the end of September or early Oct. With these few goodies pending, it is anticipated the share price would probably hit RM12 mark within next 1 or two months.

Having secured the approval of Bursa Malaysia, Aeon Credit is now seeking approval from shareholders for the Bonus Issue of 1:5 through an EGM on 28 Aug 2012. Again, this approval is only a matter of formality. This means The share will go ex-bonus sometime in September which is also the time to announce the financial results of 2nd Quarter. A set of sterling results is expected.

The company announced this evening that the bonus issue of 1:5 has been approved by Bursa Malaysia. This means it would not be long before the company determines the date of entitlement. As mentioned before in this forum, the ex-bonus price would very likely rise to pre-bonus price within a year because of the fasting growing earning. This would translate into 20% annual gain.

Secondly for non-holders, it's not too late to jump onto the bandwagon of growth of this company. From time to time I will release some of the relevant details of this company.

Aeon Credit is the market leader of easy payment and consumer financing in Malaysia. Although the customer base comprises mainly low to medium income groups, the gross profit margin is very high, in the region of 20%. The default rate is very low, around 1.8%, way below industrial average of 2%+.

Recent pay revision of civil servants augurs well for the company's business. The company is expanding every year, opening up new offices in major towns in both East and West Malaysia.

The company pays consistent dividends, increasing every year in tandem with growing income. Dividend of last financial year was 30 sen single tier. I predict that dividend of 30 sen will likely be maintained this financial year despite bonus issue of 1:5 pending approval.

Aeon Credit has just submitted the proposal of bonus issue (1:5) to SC/Bursa for approval, which should be forthcoming in the next one or two months. This type application is normally for formality only. Those who want to ride on the band wagon of consistent earning and dividend growth still have time to do some shopping before the share goes ex-bonus in the next two months.

Recently, Aeon Credit declared a 1:5 bonus issue. With closing price of RM11.24 per share, the theoretical ex-bonus price will be RM9.36 per share (will happen next few months). Due to the fast growing earning and consistent dividend payouts, I believe the ex-bonus price of RM9.36 will gradually climb back to RM11 in a year's time. As such, there is no hurry to sell the share; grow with the company!

AEON Credit 4Q earnings up 43%

KUALA LUMPUR: AEON Credit Service (M) Bhd posted a 43% increase in net profit for its 4QFY12 ended February to RM27.72 million from RM19.4 million a year ago. Revenue in 4Q increased by 27.9% to RM94.28 million, from RM73.73 million a year ago. For FY12, it posted a 50.7% rise in net profit to RM95.61 million from RM63.43 million a year ago on the back of increased revenue of 27.7% to RM344.27 million from RM269.61 million previously.

In notes accompanying its financials yesterday, AEON Credit said it realised growth in its business and receivables due to an increase in financing transaction volume, which was attributable to the continued favourable economic environment, and marketing and promotion activities.

Its total transaction and financing volume in 4Q and FY12 were RM440 million and RM1.66 billion respectively, representing a growth of 26.2% and 40.9% respectively from a year ago.

Meanwhile, its financing receivables at as end-FY12 stood at RM1.49 billion, representing a growth of 34.5% from RM1.11 billion in FY11. AEON Credit said that its non-performing loans (NPL) ratio was 1.8% as at Feb 2012 compared to 1.83% in February 2011, reflecting satisfactory asset quality despite a sharp growth in its business and receivables in the year.

It said other operating income of RM24.9 million for FY12 was 44.4% higher than the previous year, due to continued growth in fee income, especially for sales in insurance products and increase in bad debts recovered.

AEON Credit yesterday proposed a single-tier final dividend of 16.8 sen for FY12. Including this, total dividends for FY12 amounted to 30 sen. In FY11, it paid dividends amounting to 26.5 sen.

On its prospects, AEON Credit said it expects to be able to sustain its performance in FY13 based on its business strategies, and marketing and branding efforts.
